Air Conditioners

Everything you need to know

What exactly is a BTU? What's my EER? Which air conditioner is the best for my home? What are the best brands and who the most trustworthy online vendors? When should I buy one? Should I buy air conditioning?

These are just some of the prickly questions that might be going through your mind as you make the decision to buy AC. And you may already be prickled by the heat. Relax and cool off as you cruise the pages of our air conditioner guide. Find out all the basics of buying an air conditioner, learn about all the types that are available and read up on some of the leading brands.

Our site can also provide you with some unbiased basics on energy costs, allergies, the ozone layer and other environmental issues. We're not part of the air conditioning industry; we're not vendors or manufacturers; we're not even people with a bone to pick with the air conditioning industry. We're just concerned consumers – like you. The only difference is that we have already gone out and researched the industry, and we've come back with some answers.

You can also find shopping links here to help you compare vendors, prices and brands, so you can check them against our advice and your own notes.

Some of the basic aspects you need to consider when it comes to air conditioning are:

  • The size of the unit.
  • The air filtering and air cleaning features that you will get out of your unit.
  • The controls, and their convenience.
  • The weight and portability of the unit. (If you've never lifted one before, you'd better know what you're getting into).
  • The noise level of the unit.
  • Environmental protection features.

One of the most important aspects of an air conditioner is its level of energy efficiency. An air conditioning unit can cost you much more than the initial cost if it requires a lot of energy. If you look for models with Energy Star ratings, these can also qualify you for federal grants and other benefits.

Air conditioners are a complicated corner of the universe. Click around our site and learn more. Gather wisdom and use it to choose the air conditioner that is best for you.

I am in need of a Central Air Conditioner as mine has broke down. I need to find a good unit that will last more than 14 yrs as my old one did. I have had two contractors look over my situation and I don't know enough about Central Air to make a knowledgeable decision.
