GE Air Conditioners

Innovations from a leading American brand

In 1890, Thomas Edison formed the Edison General Electric Company, while at the same time Charles A. Coffin led the Thomas-Houston Company as well as smaller companies which had merged to form it. As these businesses expanded, it became difficult for either company to design or manufacture complete electrical installations using only their own technology. In 1892, these two major companies formed the General Electric Company.

Since then, General Electric has moved into and stayed at the forefront of innovations in many lighting and electrical products. In terms of its air conditioners and other air purification products, GE's expertise is in “back end” electrical and electronics, including wiring, power transmission and switches.

For example, GE is very proud of its proprietary GE3 ART Series thermostat, fitted in appliances from refrigerators and air conditioners to coolers and dehumidifiers. The innovation in this is that the switch operates automatically from changes in vapor pressure.
