Goodman Air Conditioners

Janitrol meets Goodman for effective AC

The Goodman Manufacturing Company L.P. was founded in 1982, by Harold V. Goodman. At that time, Goodman's focus was on producing and manufacturing flexible air ducts and plastic blade registers. This was the first step on the road to success for this world-renowned company.

Goodman had actually been in the air conditioning business since 1954 and clearly recognized the importance of these systems. Goodman's goal was to produce high-quality products at a low cost to the consumer. In 1982, Goodman purchased Janitrol and entered the market as a manufacturer of central air conditioners and heat pumps. This was the launch of one of the most successful operations in HVAC industry history.

Today, Goodman is based in Houston, Texas. Goodman's three modern, high-technology facilities total over 1.2 million square feet, with locations in Houston, Dayton and Fayetteville, Tennessee. The business has seen steady growth since its initial opening and remains a family-run business dedicated to the vision of its founder.

Goodman is the world's largest privately held manufacturer of air conditioning, heating and appliances. They are at the forefront of improvements in energy efficiency ratings as well as to air conditioning technology.

Two popular Goodman air conditioners, with a list of outstanding features, are profiled below:

CLQ Series 14 SEER 2-5 Ton features:

  • High-efficiency scroll compressor
  • High-efficiency copper tube / aluminum fin coil
  • Ultra-quiet operation
  • R22 refrigerant
  • Easy operation and low maintenance for optimum convenience

TWC Series 10 SEER 1½ to 2½ Ton features:

  • Through-the-wall air conditioner style
  • Energy efficient compressor with internal pressure relief valve
  • Ultra-quiet operation
  • Brass suction and liquid shut-off valves
  • Easy-to-operate and low maintenance for optimum convenience

Goodman has a long history of making 13 SEER air conditioners since the mid 1990s and has been active in pushing U.S. Congress and other government bodies to make changes to laws and standards. A full implementation of the 13 SEER standard would help to moderate the nation's energy needs over the next few decades.

Is there any problem with going bigger on the tonage of your condensing unit and the size of the evaportor coil and furnance. The house is 1000 sq. feet. poorly insulated. Sized for a 1.5 ton can a 2.5 work any better?
