The Ionic Breeze Quadra Silent Air Purifier, BurlTech is a kind of electrostatic air cleaner. As with all electrostatic filters, this unit's biggest claim to fame is that it runs quietly. While this is certainly a nice feature and electrostatic purification does have some advantages, it is also a limited form of air cleansing with some important disadvantages. This particular purifier has a suggested retail price of $349, but it can be found for less if you shop around online.
The Sharper Image Ionic Breeze Air Freshener 2.0 for Bathrooms & Small Spaces is a unique design intended for small spaces. Despite a reasonable price tag of $65, it is not well-received.
The Sharper Image Hybrid GP™ Germicidal Air Purifier qualifies as a hybrid purifier insofar as it combines electrostatic cleaning with “four super-quiet, 120 mm brushless fans.” These give it a better clean air delivery rate (CADR) than other hybrids. It's also Energy Star® rated. Apparently, this unit gets its germicidal ability from a high-energy field that kills germs and bacteria without the use of a UV lamp.
We find it a bit amusing (and somewhat deceptive) that Sharper Image claims this unit's CADR of 192 cubic feet/minute is “better than typical HEPA air cleaners.” They neglect to explain that it, in fact, does not use a HEPA filter and, therefore, is not a HEPA air cleaner. Still, it is a unique product and one of the marquee products in Shaper Image's line of air purifiers. This product retails for just under $400.
