Gas Phase Filter Purifiers

Eliminate harmful chemicals and offensive odors

Common air purifiers, including HEPA filters, do not remove all toxins from the air. In some workplaces, gas and oil residue in the air can make employees uncomfortable, sick or worse. If you work in industry or live in an industrial area, you may be curious about the benefits of a gas phase filter purifier.

This technology has been around just a few short years, but it is quickly gaining popularity. Gas phase filters can protect against gas and oil residue, as well as emissions from manufactured goods (e.g. cleaning solutions, carpet glue, etc.), chemicals (e.g. nitric oxide, formaldehyde, hydrogen sulfide, etc.) and even gas emitted by organic compounds.

How Does a Gas Phase Purifier Work?

Gas phase air cleaning units either:

  • Filter the air, removing toxins. Carbon filters remove all toxins in the same way that charcoal can be used to remove toxins from the body. Activated carbon is one of the safest, healthiest ways to remove deadly toxins anywhere.
  • Neutralize airborne toxins, converting them into harmless elements such as carbon dioxide.
  • Or employ a process called gettering, especially effective in the neutralization of ammonia. This process requires ongoing maintenance and replacement of the filter, which contains a zirconium-based alloy that very efficiently forms neutral gases (oxides, etc.).

Gas phase purifiers can be rented if your needs are only short-term. Renting will save you the purchase price, which can range from $300 up to $900. If an ongoing problem with gas fumes is making people sick in your home or workplace, it is probably worth your while to invest in a gas phase purification unit.

The AllerAir VOCARB series of air purifiers removes Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) found in new construction materials. This unit will clean the air in a new home or office quite thoroughly. It could also be used regularly – for example, in cases where “cheap” carpet glue has been used and it is not practical to replace the carpets. Units like this can also be used to remove mold spores, tobacco odors, chemicals and smoke (both residual and ongoing).
