Copiers

Everything you need to know

There have been many great inventions over the years, especially in the world of business, but the invention of the photocopier has to rank right up there among the best. For anyone who isn't familiar with the photocopier and what it does, here's a quick rundown. A photocopier is an electronic device that allows you to enter a piece of paper or a document with text and/or graphics on it and at the touch of a button, it will make any number of copies of that document for you. This is a fantastic and simple way of saving time, money and effort (let alone writer's cramp). You should be able to find a copier in one form or another in just about any office in the world.

A patent attorney named Chester Carlson invented a copying process called electrophotography in New York in 1937. This process was renamed Xerography a year later, but the earliest forms of office copiers weren't introduced to the world until 1958 by the Xerox Company. After a slow start, copiers became popular and essential pieces of equipment to the business world until about 10 years later. Xerox was such a dominant force in the copying industry that people would refer to photocopying as "Xeroxing" and photocopiers as "Xeroxes". However, as more companies jumped into the copier game, the term photocopying became the norm.
